Context on NORAD, threats, priorities and opportunities

The Institut Militaire de Québec is organizing a lightning conference, in English, with Lieutenant-General Blaise Frawley, Deputy Commander of the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD).

This conference provides a detailed and strategic overview of the role and responsibilities of the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD). The presentation will begin with a historical overview of NORAD, exploring its origins, evolution and importance as a unique bi-national organization between Canada and the United States. It will then highlight current and emerging threats that influence aerospace and maritime security, including those related to technological developments, state and non-state adversaries, and environmental challenges.

In parallel, NORAD's operational and strategic priorities will be outlined, aligned with its mission to detect, deter and defend against potential threats. Finally, the presentation will highlight future opportunities, both in terms of capacity building and international cooperation, to ensure sustainable collective security.

The aim of this comprehensive analysis is to inform, raise awareness and engage participants on the critical issues facing North American defence.
